The Launch

Last night the site was officially launched. Many sausage rolls were eaten as people reflected on the great work that the Cranhill Arts Project has been involved with over the last 25 years.

There were also some faces we recognised from the archive. Here is a shot of Alpine MacLachlan then and now.

There is however much more to be done and many more photographs waiting to be scanned and uploaded. This however is a huge task as there is more than 30,000 images waiting for their chance to be seen by the world. If you are interested in helping preserve the archive for posterity the Cranhill Arts Project would love it if you could give up a little of your spare time and help with the scanning and re-touching of the photographs.

You should contact Chris Nicoletti if you would like to help out.

Going Live with the Archive

Tonight after a many hours trudging through folder and folders of negatives and many more hours scanning Design is Central will be launching Glaswegians.org. A vast collection of photographic images that were taken between 1989 and 1992 as part of a project run by The Cranhill Arts Project.

In this initial launch we have taken what we think are some of the best images from the archive and now present them online for the world to see and enjoy. The online archive will allow you to make comment on the so that if you spot a place or someone you recognise you can tell the world. This will give new depth and personality to the photographs and build this archive into something truly unique.

This is one of my favourite images and I hope someone can tell me who these lovely ladies visiting Victoria’s on Sauchiehall Street are and if they still sport those magnificent shoulder pads.

Hahah!! Wonderful stuff.
